| Global Semiconductor Company Achieves Improved Engineering Productivity and Design Data Quality with PLM |

Objective
To improve engineering productivity and design data quality, a leading global semi-conductor equipment manufacturer, undertook a major initiative to replace legacy systems and define and implement a strategy for integrated Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). In the first phase of the project, the client engaged Kalypso to evaluate PLM offerings, create the strategic imperative, develop a business case and implementation roadmap, and select a PLM software platform.
Solution
Kalypso collaborated with the client to define all key criteria that would drive solution selection and, ultimately, a tailored PLM strategy and implementation roadmap. This included an initial assessment and the gathering of PLM requirements from engineering, sourcing, supply chain operations, and program management. The project was completed over a sixteen-week period. Scope included:
- Diagnosis and assessment of legacy PLM applications
- Review of “as-is” business processes
- Client team education on the PLM software market
- Re-definition of requirements and development of business scenarios
- Script of demonstrations and evaluations of software solutions
- Development of a PLM strategy, vision, and business case
- High-level implementation planning and estimation
Results
Kalypso helped the client to review all options, quickly arrive at a short list of solutions, weigh the relative costs and benefits, and ultimately select a pure-play PLM platform that provided the best organizational fit. Key deliverables on this project included defining the business imperative for PLM, developing a comprehensive strategy for future use of PLM technology, and creating an implementation roadmap. Today, the client is realizing the accelerated benefits of improved engineering productivity and design data quality.
