Richard, a Partner with Kalypso, brings over 20 years of consulting and industry experience to our clients.
He leads the Kalypso Aerospace and Defense practice, as well as concentrating on High Technology and Semiconductor clients. His span of responsibility covers both domestic and international clients.

Education and Experience:
Prior to joining Kalypso, Richard was Principal of Richard Schmidt Consulting, where he led strategy and operations engagements for Silicon Valley Hi Tech clients, and worked in China for a client on a manufacturing improvement project. Prior to that, Richard was a Director at BearingPoint, Inc., focusing on operations and performance management for Aerospace and Defense and Hi Tech clients. Richard also served as Manager of Aerospace and Defense at A.T. Kearney where he led projects both domestically and internationally for global Aerospace and Defense companies, employing both project management and strategy and operations expertise. He also was Founder and CEO of Defense Conversion Strategies, a firm focused on converting defense technologies to commercial applications. Additionally, Richard has over ten years of industry experience within Aerospace and Defense, serving in various leadership positions to include program management for space, weapons systems and satellite programs.
Richard has a Master of Science in Management degree from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and is a Sloan Fellow of the Graduate School of Business.

Richard has extensive experience leading major consulting projects working with diverse global corporations in the United States, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Singapore, and South Korea. His specific areas of focus include PLM strategy, process and transformation; operational leadership; program management; supply chain solutions; and IT assessment and adoption.
Outside the office:
Richard resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where he is active in local community volunteer organizations as well as professional and academic groups. He enjoys biking, water sports, traveling, golf, writing, and the theatre.
